Webmaster from Writing Fix Shares!

Today, we want to welcome you to our year of SHOWING WRITING, a skill that depends on three of the six writing traits: idea development, voice, and word choice.

  • Our chosen "Mentor Texts of the Year" both offer advice from two great authors will help teach those three traits and improve showing.
  • We've created an idea showing exchange group here at the Ning where teachers who join the group can share how they teach elements of showing all year long.
  • And...we've establish our brand new Showing Writing Homepage, where all lessons and ideas from teacher users will be stored; the first four lessons are already posted, and we expect to house at leasttwo dozen by year's end.
If you've never participated in our "Mentor Text of the Year" Program, which establishes our annual growing theme at WritingFix, this would be a good year to do it.  As I've been working on the new Showing Page, I've realized I know a little about teaching this complex skill, but there are some really good ideas out there I haven't ever thought of before.

So...check out the new Showing Homepage...and please don't be shy about sharing ideas with us this year; that's how WritingFix continues to grow...because teachers share their lessons, prompts, and ideas (big and small!) with us.

A New Blog from BPI

To My Readers,

As we move forward as a nation, implementing the common core, many educators are not being informed about the process or resources available.

Common core will dictate extensive changes in the classroom.

In an effort to support educators, I have created a new blog where I will post information and resources as soon as it becomes available.

I will post information applicable to all grade levels and content areas.
Please don't hesitate to sign up as a follower and share your thoughts with us.
Together we can make a difference.

New Twist on Writing!

The following article looks at the use of twitter when studying history.  While reading it and thinking about the new focus on language arts in content areas, I couldn't help but wonder about its applications as a pre-writing activity!  I am thinking, it could be broadened and used in other content areas as well.  Please take time to read and post your thoughts.
